Non-Spoiler Review

We have finally come to the end of this amazing series. It took me a lot longer to listen to, mostly because I didn't want it to be over. I finished it a few days ago and still can't believe it's over. I will miss these characters something fierce.

In this last installment, all the loose ends are finally tied up. This book was seriously an emotional roller coaster for me. I probably cried more in this book than I ever have in any other book.

As we remember from Empire of Storm, Aelin has been captured by Maeve and Lysandra has agreed to be Aelin till the end. Rowan, with a few others, go hunting down Maeve and get Aelin back. In the meantime, Aedion and Lysandra protect Terrasen the best they can. Once everyone finally meets up it is amazing!

I immediately fell in love with this series and characters from the first book. It has been such a fun journey to follow each of them and watch them grow. Each and every character in their own way has grown immensely. Sarah has such a talent to create characters you can't help but love!

This last book is an insane ride for sure. But one that I'm sure you will love. I think that Sarah ended this series perfectly, and I really hope we will see some more books with these guys in it. I'm sure I'll be rereading this series at least once every 2 years. I really hope you enjoyed reading it as well!

Now get ready for the crazy ride that is my spoilery review 😳🤗

***Spoilery Review***

I honestly don't even know where to start! There is sooo much that I want to talk about and so many feelings I want to express on here. This book was seriously amazing. I kept wondering when someone was going to die and who was it going to be. Luckily it seems that Maas likes happy endings! The deaths that did occur were horrible, but at least they weren't any of the main, main characters. Also, I was so anxious very when everyone was going to meet up and once they did, Dang. I loved it, it was perfect. Well, let's start...

  • I hate that Aelin is kept in that iron box. I hate that Fenrys is treated so horribly, but I am glad that they are together. I'm glad that even though they don't speak, they have their own way of communicating.

  • I was so sad for Fenrys when Maeve made his twin brother kill himself. Goodness gracious that was horrible.

  • The torture that Aelin is receiving was so hard to listen to! And those times that Maeve made her think she was somewhere nice, looking to Maeve as a teacher, was horrible. It made me think I was wrong on a few things, only to find out Maeve tricked Aelin and me.

  • I was sooo happy that Rowan and the gang were able to save Aelin.

  • I like Elide more and more. She has such a great personality and is so dang feisty. I do feel bad for Lorchan. As horrible as he was, he really loves Elide and I totally believe everything he told her.

  • One of the hardest things I ever had to listen to in a book was once they save Aelin, and she was trying to get that mask off. She did not sound like herself at all and the whole scene was so heartbreaking. I cried my eyes out. But on a happier note, I'm so glad that giving Fenrys the blood oath saved him!!!

  • Dorian with the 13. I kept wondering what he had up his sleeve. I love that he can get help from the sword, and when Kaltain came and talked to him, that was so good. Especially when Dorian kneeled to her. Made me really happy.

  • I know Aedion is mad, and I totally understand why, but he was taking it to a whole other level with Lysandra. He treated her horribly and it made me so angry at him for a lot of the book.

  • That moment when Fenrys decided to shift back. I cried my eyes out.

  • I am so happy about Rowan and Aelin. I was very against their relationship, but I think they are totally perfect for one another now.

  • The scene with Lorchan and Aelin. I loved that she decided to give him the blood oath and that he took it not only for Elide but because he saw how much better it would be.

  • Maas has done such amazing character development with Lorchan. I hated him when we first met him, and now he is up there with some of my favorite characters of this book.

  • When Chaol and Aelin finally meet up again. What an emotional time. I was jumping for joy. And that moment when Chaol introduced Yrene as his wife, that was perfect. I cried so many tears of joy. I'm getting emotional typing this up now.

  • Manon finally finding the Crochan witches and trying to get them on her side. All that was so good. I enjoyed getting more history and I love that the 12 were b her side the whole time.

  • I can't believe that Dorian can shift. I'm glad they were able to capture Falkan's spider and that Dorian killed her! I also love that because that spider is now dead, Falkan got his years back! I was so happy for him.

  • The fight scene with Manon and the three witches was amazing. Maas writes great fight scenes.

  • Dorian shifting as a woman and Manon knowing was super hilarious!

  • Manon being crowned queen of the witches was such an awesome part of the book. Manon has grown so much through this series. Still my favorite character.

  • I love how Dorian tricked Maeve. I wasn't sure if he was going to stay with her or not, but the way he tricked her was genius.

  • Aelin fighting that army in Anielle was crazy! I can't believe she saved all her power up just to explode on Maeve and Erewan. I know she didn't use it for what she intended but I'm glad that she saved everyone!

  • I knew that when Aedion and his army saw more wyverns coming, that it was going to be the 13. Lysandra fought her butt off that entire fight. I love how Darrow has taken Evangeline in and is helping her the best he can.

  • Abraxos almost dying was so intense. I'm so glad Petra came and was able to help.

  • The 12's death. This part was so hard for me to read. I love that they pretty much talked about it without Manon, knowing if it came down to it, they would sacrifice themselves to save everyone, including Manon, the queen. They wanted a better world as Manon said, and they had faith in Manon that she would accomplish it. I sobbed uncontrollably for a good long while.

  • Dorian and Chaol's reunion was perfection!!! So so happy!

  • Dorian and Aelin deciding to take the keys and lock the door. I was so scared for them. I was so surprised when Dorian's father came out and said he could help because he was nameless. And nameless is the price.

  • I hate that Aelin went to do it on her own. It worked obviously, but I wish sometime she would get more help from her people. I thought she was dead. Part of me knew that there was no way that could happen, but I couldn't think of a way out of it. Her trapping the Gods was insane. And then her falling through different worlds, and seeing those faes. I love that they blew the horn, at the time of reading it, I thought it was just to acknowledge that they saw her, but we know after finishing the book that's not just it.

  • I also love that Rowan was clever and put in those were marks while tattooing her. He had a feeling that something would happen and he made sure to make a way back from Aelin.

  • I know that they weren't able to lock up Erewan, but I think that Aelin's decision was a smart one. I hate that everyone is mad at her.

  • I love Borte. She is such a fun character, and I knew that Aelin and her would get along.

  • Murtaugh dying was so sad. He wanted to be a part of the battle, but it was so so sad.

  • I'm so glad that Darrow gave Aedion the sword back. He deserves it.

  • I was a little confused about Darrow making Evangeline his heir. I guess they just weren't sure if Aelin was coming back or not. I love that he did that though. I wonder if Maas will write a series about Evangeline, I feel like that is possible.

  • The way the saw Aelin and the ruks and everyone else couldn't have been written any better. Seriously. I couldn't stop crying. That was an amazing scene.

  • Gavriel's death was so sad. He was such a great guy. Even though he was originally with Maeve and he left Aedion and his mother, he wanted to have a relationship with Aedion so bad. And he sacrificed himself to help his son. I'm so glad that Aedion was able to see him one last time.

  • I was scared the entire time Aelin had to face down Maeve and Erewan. That part was so intense, especially knowing Aelin didn't have much power left.

  • I love that Elide knew what to do and that Yrene went along with it. I know it was hard for Chaol to let her go and do it, but he had faith in her and trusted her. I was so scared for her though, and their baby.

  • The vision that Maeve gave Aelin confused even me. I was like, what?!?!? Was everything else made up? Part of me knew that couldn't be true since there were so many different POV's, but the vision did make me second guess myself just like Aelin was. And then as Aelin realized it wasn't real, Elide pops up. For a second I was wondering why in the world Elide was there. Maeve is good, she even got me.

  • I can't believe that Maeve knew Aelin was pretty much powerless. That whole scene where she was showing visions to the Cadre made me so scared. I didn't want any of them to die. I'm glad that Aelin was able to get to them and that they didn't die.

  • Elide, Dorian, and Yrene with Erewan was so intense as well. I didn't want any of them to die either. I'm so glad they were able to kill Erewan. I love that everyone cheered for Yrene. That part was so special. And wow, Dorian's father's name was Dorian. I love that his father remembered his name once, and that is when he was naming his son.

  • I seriously did a dance when those other faes came and fought with everyone. And Maeve being dead! Man, there was so much awesomeness and that scene. I had so many tears of happiness.

  • I'm so glad that Falkan finally met Lysandra. What a sweet reunion as well!

  • I'm also so happy that she and Aedion are back together.

  • Something that I forgot to mention was Knox. I loved seeing Knox. I'm just sad he didn't get a chance to see Aelin again.

  • Dorian and Manon's talk so so sad. When she said she missed the 12, I cried like a baby.

  • Gavrial and the blood oath. That was so awesome that she did that.

  • I'm happy that Aelin and Aedion are finally together now. They are so funny.

  • My heart was so happy for Lorchan and Elide. Lord Lorcan Lochan... that is hilarious.

  • I love that Yrene is thinking about opening a Torres in Adarlan.

  • The curse finally being broken. That horrible curse on the witches. I just wish that the 12 were there to see it.

  • Aelin and Manon talking together was the best scene. I love those two.

  • Aelin's coronation was beautiful. I loved every single part of it. I also love how she gave Aedion the blood oath. Exactly how he wanted it, for all the world to see.

And the roar from the gathered crowds was loud enough to rattle the stars.
  • That quote got me really good. I cried. I love how Maas put that in there. I'm so happy for Sartaq and Nesryn. She is going to be an Empress!!!!

  • I really hope that one day Dorian and Manon get married. And I really hope we get to be a part of it!

  • Everyone leaving was just so sad. I knew it had to happen but I hated it. All those goodbyes.

  • This is it. It started with Chaol, Dorian, and Aelin. They were the first. I still remember how they met and all the drama between them. All of them hugging was too precious. Her saying that she loves them both and always will was too much for me to handle

I love you both, and no matter what may happen, no matter how far we may be, that will never change.
Together we will rebuild this world, together.
  • That part was so emotional. It was the perfect ending of those 3 though. Maas couldn't have written it any better.

  • When she wakes up and looks out to see all the kings flame bloomed, that was so neat. She is truly a blessed queen.

I really enjoyed this last book so much. I am so sad that it is over but am glad that I got to read it and re-read it many times. I can't wait to reread the whole series in a few years! I really hope Maas decided to add on to this series! I also totally recommend listening to the series. The narrator, Elizabeth Evens is amazing!
